Variety Characteristics
Midnight
Midnight is the strongest performing Kentucky bluegrass ever developed and has been recognized as being in a class unto itself. For more than 20 years, Midnight has stood out in university and private trails with its beauty and performance. It is known for its low, compact spreading growth and is moderately aggressive with a medium-fine blade width. It is a uniform, dense turf with minimal seed head. A strong disease tolerant turf that does well in full sun to light shade. Even in heat and humidity and throughout all zones of adaptation its performance is excellent. First mowing is recommended when it reaches approximately 2" (recommended mow height of 1½" to 2½"). In the 2003 NTEP progress report, Midnight rated 8 for dark color on a scale of 1 to 9.

Limousine
Limousine has long been recognized as one of the strongest bluegrasses in terms of density and wear tolerance. The excellent density of the turf not only adds a lush appearance, it naturally chokes and limits weed encroachment and overall is very disease-resistant. It germinates quickly and has the finest leaf texture with impressive spring and fall ground coverage and is frost tolerant. This turf shows an early green color and improved winter color and is aggressive. Limousine does very well in cool or humid regions, performs well in shade and has a good summer heat performance. In addition to this turf’s durability to withstand high traffic wear and tear, Limousine is a low growing bluegrass.

Moonlight
Moonlight is one-of-a-kind bluegrass that combines its beautiful dark blue green color along with its ability to perform well in areas of moderate salinity. It also performs well in a wide range of well-drained soils. Moonlight blends very well with other bluegrasses and has a compact spreading growth habit and is moderately aggressive. This uniquely colored bluegrass has a medium leaf texture and maintains a balance between beauty, drought tolerance and disease resistance.

Blackstone
Blackstone is another uniquely colored bluegrass with its excellent dark blue-green color. One of the strongest characteristics of Blackstone is its reduced vertical growth. Blackstone also displays early spring green-up. in addition to its highly desirable reduced growth and dark color, it has rated very strongly in the NTEP trials and is especially strong for resistance against leaf and spot disease.

This bluegrass has 4 varieties of bluegrass combined. Each variety is unique and very strong individually. It is the combination of the 4 varieties that create an economical earth friendly bluegrass sod. The very dark green color is genetic. A darker colored turf discourages over-watering. In addition, this bluegrass mix has excellent drought resistance. The lower growth properties of this bluegrass mean less mowing and reduced maintenance.
