Black Beauty’s dark leaves possess an invisible waxy coating, very similar to what you’d find on an apple, which helps to preserve moisture in the leaf and wards off stress from heat, cold, wind and disease. This blend grows well in clay or sandy soils and in full sun or partial shade, and will improve any lawn it is over-seeded into.

Jonathan Green’s Black Beauty is the most genetically superior grass seed on the market today! Black Beauty has a dark-green color, grows roots up to 4′ deep, possesses a waxy coating on the leaf to preserve moisture when hot, and is grown by leading sod growers across the U.S.A. Its superior varieties will improve even the poorest of lawns. Black Beauty Sod is a finer bladed variety, fescue giving it a wonderful appearance with all the benefits of a turf-type tall fescue. Black Beauty is more drought-tolerant and durable than other types of grass. It is also very wear-tolerant and lush, performing well in even high traffic areas and in poor soils of low pH, where other seeding jobs often fail. Black Beauty Sod is naturally pest repellent and requires less water and fewer nutrients to thrive – making this blend an environmentally sound choice that lowers your environmental footprint
Selected specifically for glyphosate tolerance to reduce weeds and lower maintenance costs. An adaptable turf, Pure Gold is suitable for Colorado’s drier climate and lower humidity, has excellent drought and heat tolerance, and it performs well in a wide range of soil types. It tolerates full sun to moderate shade better than other cool season turfs. Pure Gold is deeply rooted and when established and maintained correctly, will reduce your water usage over time. Wear resistance is good, it has a uniform medium density and a bunch-type growth habit. Pure Gold is a dark green color and has a finer narrow leaf blade. Mowing heights are suggested from 1-1/2″ to 3″ and is height-consistent with blend varieties listed below for easy maintenance.
Tomahawk is a newer version of Pure Gold, and accordingly all of the positive characteristics of this turf have been further strengthened. The medium-to-dark intense green color catapults this variety directly to the top of popularity. Tomahawk establishes fast and brings well-balanced performance in both sports and lawn use coupled with excellent health and vitality.
One of the best cool season grasses available, Matador is an outstanding tall fescue variety that excels in all major turfgrass characteristics. This variety of turf still maintains its deeply rooted characteristic for water savings and lower growth rate to lower maintenance costs. In addition to complimenting all the finest qualities of the above two varieties, certain characteristics of Matador have been vastly improved: Turf quality, brown patch resistance, glyphosate tolerance, adaptability to all climates except the most extreme areas of the southeast, and performance even during the cool wet winters of the Pacific Northwest. Mowing height is suggested at 1″ to 2-1/2,” meaning Matador blends beautifully with the above listed varieties. Turf managers will have vastly improved control of grassy weeds in tall fescue turf and all will appreciate saving time, money and water.
